The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has urged Nigerians to pray for divine intervention in the face of efforts by unscrupulous oil marketers to thwart the operations of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, following the previous sabotage of Nigeria’s four state-owned refineries.

The respected clergyman made the call for nationwide prayers during the November 2024 Abuja Special Holy Ghost Service themed ‘Total Restoration’, which held in the capital city. While Adeboye did not explicitly name the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, his remarks echoed the ongoing attempts by oil marketers to prevent the refinery from functioning as it was designed to.

The Dangote Refinery based in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos is the only facility currently refining petrol in Nigeria, and Adeboye’s comments reflected the dispute between the refinery and oil marketers, who seek to continue importing fuel for personal gain.

Pastor Adeboye reminded the congregation that it was God who raised Aliko Dangote to establish a refinery after years of failed attempts to revive Nigeria’s four public refineries, which had consumed billions of Naira with little result. He questioned the persistence of fuel imports despite Nigeria’s status as a major crude oil producer.

“Are we under a curse?” he asked. “We have four refineries, we poured all kinds of money into them, none of them is working. But God raised someone to build a refinery that works. He is not my relative, he is not from my village. He is not even a Christian, but he is a Nigerian who says, ‘Why should my people suffer when I have the means to build a refinery that can work?’ Now he is refining petrol, and some people want to stop him from selling it, so they can keep importing.”

Adeboye also pointed out the damage caused by the fuel subsidy, describing it as a significant drain on Nigeria’s resources, contributing to the country’s mounting debts and corruption. He stressed that when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced the end of the subsidy in 2023, Nigerians largely welcomed the decision, but oil marketers, who benefitted from the subsidy regime, were furious.

These marketers, the renowned pastor claimed, have formed alliances with some International Oil Companies (IOCs) and other powerful interests to obstruct the Dangote Petroleum Refinery. This includes restricting access to crude oil, forcing Dangote to import crude from countries like the United States, among others.

He called for prayer for the total restoration of the country, noting that the Nigerian people are suffering the consequences, as the prices of essential goods have soared, pushing many items beyond the reach of ordinary citizens. “The masses are the ones suffering because these marketers, who are bent on keeping imports alive, already have more money than they can ever spend,” he said.

Despite the Dangote Petroleum Refinery’s capacity to meet Nigeria’s entire demand for petroleum products – and even to export surplus fuel – oil marketers continue to pressurise the government to allow ongoing petrol imports. This has placed additional strain on the Naira, which has continued to depreciate.

Recently, the Crude Oil Refineries Owners Association of Nigeria (CORAN) urged the government to protect local refineries from unfair competition posed by importers and international petroleum traders, in line with provisions in the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).

Alhaji Abubakar Sulaimon, also known as Mayaki, reaffirmed as innocent of the murder allegations made against him by the family of the late Idowu Keshinro.

Mayaki, a well-known real estate professional and philanthropist has been under scrutiny FCID Homicide Section Abuja following claims that he was involved in Keshinro’s death.

However, recent developments have shed light on his innocence.

The investigation has revealed that Mayaki was not present at the scene of the crime, as he was confirmed to be in seclutiion outside the state, during the time of the purported incident.

This fact has been supported by evidence provided during the investigation. Despite initial concerns, Mayaki’s alibi has been corroborated, and there is no substantial evidence linking him to the crime.

Mayaki was granted bail earlier after a thorough examination of his whereabouts, and claims of his attempts to evade justice have been debunked.

The accusations made by Keshinro’s family have been called into question, with some alleging that these claims might be driven by misunderstandings or personal grievances rather than concrete evidence.

In response to these developments, Mayaki ’s legal team has emphasized his commitment to cooperating with authorities and maintaining transparency. They have called for a fair and impartial investigation, urging the public to consider the evidence that supports Mayaki ’s innocence.

The case has highlighted the importance of verifying allegations with concrete proof before making accusations. Mayaki remains committed to continuing his business endeavors and contributing positively to his community as he clears his name of any wrongdoing.

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has again announced a further reduction in the prices of both diesel and aviation fuel to N940, N980 per litre respectively.

This is coming in the wake of its widely celebrated price reduction to N1,000 barely two weeks ago.

The price change of N940 applies to customers buying five million litres and above from the refinery, while the price of N970 is for customers buying one million litres and above.

Speaking on the new development, the Head of Communication, Mr Anthony Chiejina, explained that the new price is in consonance with the company’s commitment to cushion the effect of economic hardship in Nigeria.

“I can confirm to you that Dangote Petroleum Refinery has entered a strategic partnership with MRS Oil and Gas stations, to ensure that consumers get to buy fuel at affordable price, in all their stations be it Lagos or Maiduguri. You can buy as low as 1 litre of diesel at N1,050 and aviation fuel at N980 at all major airports where MRS operates.”

He further stated that the partnership will be extended to other major oil marketers. “The essence of this is to ensure that retail buyers do not buy at exorbitant prices.

“The Dangote Group is committed to ensuring that Nigerians have a better welfare and as such, we are happy to announce this new prices and hope that it would go a long way to cushion the effect of economic challenges in the country.

It would be recalled that the management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery announced a further reduction of the price of diesel from 1200 to 1,000 Naira per litre barely two weeks ago.

This marks the third major reduction in diesel price in less than three weeks when the product sold at N1,700 to N1,200 and also a further reduction to N1,000 and now N940 for diesel and N980 for aviation fuel per litre.

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu had also commended Mr Dangote for the initial price reduction, describing it as an “enterprising feat.”

Reacting to the latest development, The Director General of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Mr. Ajayi Kadiri, said that “The decision of Dangote Refinery to first crash the price from about N1,750/litre to N1,200/litre, N1,000/litre and now N940 is an eloquent demonstration of the capacity of local industries to positively impact the fortunes of the national economy.”

He added that “The trickledown effect of this singular intervention promises to change the dynamics in the energy cost equation of the country, in the midst of inadequate and rising cost of electricity.

“The reduction will have far-reaching effects in critical sectors like industrial operations, transportation, logistics, and agriculture, contributing to easing the high inflation rate in the country; a lot of companies will be back in operation.”

One Kennedy Iyere is vying to succeed Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State in the forthcoming gubernatorial election.

Recall that in 2018, Iyere was dragged before Magistrate Folashade Botoku of the Igbosere’s Magistrate Court in Lagos for presenting a dud cheque.

Iyere, who was widely known as a militant, reportedly presented the dud cheque to the management of Oakwood Park Hotel in the Lekki area of Lagos, after using their facility for a party on Friday, October 6, 2017.

Multiple reports claimed that he ran away from Lagos to Abuja immediately after committing the crime over fears of being caught.

Luck, however, ran out on him when the management of Oakwood Park Hotel reported the matter to the police, who swung into action, and arrested Iyere in Abuja, from where he was brought to Lagos, and arraigned in court.

Six years after being charged with felony over the issuance of the dud cheque, Iyere is heading to the polls to secure votes in the Edo State governorship election scheduled for later this year under the Accord Party. However, the majority of the party members are now calling for his withdrawal in the forthcoming election, saying he lacks the credibility to represent them in the poll.

Comrade Curtis Ugbo, a prominent member of the party, is among the vocal critics of Iyere’s candidacy, leading calls for his withdrawal.

Ugbo’s stance is rooted in a firm belief that Iyere lacks the essential credibility and integrity required to represent Accord Party, and lead Edo State.

In a scathing critique, Ugbo, who accused Iyere of owing him alongside other Accord Party members millions of naira, labeled the latter as a fraudster that has repeatedly demonstrated a blatant disregard for ethical conduct.

Ugbo also accused Iyere of attempting to deceive and outsmart both the party leadership and the electorate, painting a damning picture of a candidate whose ambitions are driven by self-serving interests rather than genuine public service.

“Iyere is a fraud, plain and simple,” remarked Ugbo. “He thinks he can outsmart everyone, including the electorate, but we cannot allow such a charlatan to represent our party and lead our state. We need leaders of unquestionable integrity and moral standing, not individuals with a history of deceit and financial misconduct.“

Ugbo’s plea for the withdrawal of Iyere’s candidacy resonated with other party members, highlighting widespread concerns about the potential consequences of nominating him.

Echoing Ugbo’s concerns, one Sandra Ogbebor called on the leadership of Accord Party to substitute the candidacy of Iyere, describing him as a chronic debtor.

Alleging that Iyere borrowed a whopping sum of N3 million from her, Ogbebor said the latter is unworthy to govern a state, as he lacked empathy and care for people.

“This man (Iyere) came to me to loan him the money meant for my child’s school fees, which I did as I thought he’s a man of integrity. Little did I know that he’s a conman, and fraud,” she added.

Iyere was also alleged by other party faithful to have approached the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to secure the code that would enable him to put his name as the flag bearer of the party.“It’s only the National Chairman of our party that has the jurisdiction to apply for the code, and use it. But Iyere went to INEC in his desperate bid to outsmart everyone. Thankfully, his dubious deeds were detected,” another party member who spoke on a condition of anonymity, stated.

President/Chief Executive of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote has been conferred with the prestigious award of the National Order of the Lion by President Macky Sall of the Republic of Senegal. The National Order of the Lion Award is the highest civilian laurel to be bestowed on any individual in the West African country. The award ceremony will be held, in Senegal on Friday.

This highest recognition and honour was said to be in appreciation for the services Dangote has rendered to the Republic of Senegal as well as a tribute to his business acumen, philanthropy, and developmental projects, which are capable of transforming Africa as a whole. The Dangote Group has a Cement Plant in Pout, Senegal.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sent a congratulatory message to the frontline businessman on the award conferred on Dangote by the Senegalese Government.

In a press statement, signed by the Special Adviser, Media & Publicity to the President, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu applauded the industrialist for his enterprise and ingenuity, creating jobs and opportunities for many in Nigeria and across West Africa, as well as contributing to their economies, which the award further affirms. The President commended Mr. Dangote and wished him the very best in his endeavours.

Recall that, just recently, Dangote was also conferred with the Commander of the Order of Merit of Niger award by the President of the then Republic of Niger, His Excellency Mohamed Bazoum in Niamey.

In the same vein, Dangote also bagged Nigeria’s second highest national honour, Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), after the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR) – an award which is only reserved for Nigerian Presidents and Heads of State. Dangote became the first individual outside government to receive this national honor. In the past, the GCON honour has only been awarded to Vice-Presidents, Chief Justices of the country, and Senate Presidents.

Today, as I reflect on the fifth anniversary of my father’s passing, Khalifa Sheikh Isyaku Rabiu (Khadimul Quran), I am filled with both sadness and gratitude. While it is difficult to believe that five years have already passed since he left us, I am grateful for the time that we had with him and the legacy that he left behind.

Khalifa was a man of great faith and determination. He was a devout Muslim who dedicated his life to serving Allah and spreading the teachings of Islam. He was also a successful businessman who built a global empire through hard work, perseverance, and a deep commitment to excellence.

But what I remember most about Khalifa is his kindness and generosity. He had a heart of gold and was always willing to help those in need, regardless of their race, religion, or social status. He believed in giving back to the community and made significant contributions to various charitable organizations and causes throughout his life.

Khalifa’s passing was a great loss not only to our family but also to the wider community. However, his legacy lives through his works and various programs we have established in his memory to continue his charitable work, and support various initiatives aimed at improving the lives of people in Nigeria and beyond.

On this fifth anniversary of his passing, I am reminded of Khalifa’s words, which continue to inspire me every day: “Success is not measured by wealth or power, but by the impact you make in the lives of others.” Khalifa’s impact on the world will continue to be felt for generations to come, and his memory will forever be cherished in our hearts.

I am also reminded of the verse in the Quran that says, “And say, ‘My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small.’” (Quran 17:24).

May Allah grant him Jannah (Paradise) and may his soul continue to rest in peace.

Nigerians have expressed shock after the wife of Kogi governor, Rashida Bello declared wanted over a N3 billion fraud was seen chilling with first lady Aisha Buhari and the wife of the president-elect, Remi Tinubu at the villa.

Nigerians who lamented that corruption has now become endemic in the country, noted that the photo makes them depressed.

“Is this for real?

Corruption is endemic. It is innate in an average African. Each time I read out matters like this, I feel depressed because I know what I am going through. I understand what others are also going through. The hardship is intense. Why would these people continue to siphon our common patrimony at our own expense?

Anybody who can help me with a job, no matter how menial or humbling, I would appreciate. You’re helping an entire family if u do this for me. We are dying here” a social media user wrote on a forum.

Recall that on February 13, the EFCC sued Mrs Bello and others at the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court over money laundering and misappropriation of about N3 billion.

According to Peoples Gazette, Mrs Bello announced her presence at a meeting with Mrs Buhari and Remi Tinubu at the Villa on Monday, few weeks after the anti-graft agency declared her wanted.

“Few days ago at the Presidential Villa where the wife of the president-elect, (the) wife of the vice-president-elect, myself and other governor’s wives, as well as APC stakeholders and members, paid a courtesy visit to the mother of the nation, Dr (Mrs) Aisha Buhari,” Mr Bello said in a Facebook post on Monday, sharing photos of herself in the company of the women.

EFCC’s spokesman Wilson Uwujaren told Peoples Gazette that “the matter is in court” when asked on Thursday about the anti-graft agency’s claim that Mrs Bello is at large.

Last February, the anti-corruption commission arraigned the Kogi first lady (in absentia) and four others for money laundering and criminal misappropriation.

“That you, Ali Bello, Abba Adaudu, Yakubu Siyaka Adabenege, Iyada Sadat, Rashida Bello (at large) sometime in June 2020 in Abuja within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court procured E- Traders International Limited to retain the aggregate sum of N3,081,804,654.00 which sum you reasonably ought to have known forms part of proceeds of unlawful activity to wit: criminal misappropriation, and you thereby committed an offence contrary to sections 18(a), 15(20)(d) of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act, 2011 as amended and punishable under section 15 (3) of the same Act,” said count one of the charge.

They are facing an 18-count charge.

Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has adjourned ruling on the bail application filed by Ali Bello, nephew of the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, and four others in a N3 billion money laundering trial to Monday, February 20, 2023.

At the resumed proceedings on the case on Tuesday, February 14, defence counsel, Ahmed Raji, SAN, informed the court of two motions filed on February 7, 2023, seeking the withdrawal and replacement of the initial applications of January 26, 2023 on behalf of the defendants.

In the supporting affidavits, Raji prayed the court to grant the first defendant and others bail “on the most liberal terms”, stating that the defendants are law-abiding citizens.

“My lord, it has been more than a year since the EFCC has been investigating them and they were admitted to bail which they have not jumped, even once. In fact, the fourth defendant at a time, got his passport back and was permitted by the EFCC to travel to Mecca and he came back,” he said.

However, prosecution counsel, Kabiru Hussini, relying on a seven-paragraph counter-affidavit, faulted Raji’s claims.

“My lord, our written addresses oppose the application for bail, because we believe that in the interest of this case, the defendants have every tendency to jump bail, because they have all the influence, resources and power to intimidate our witnesses and tamper with evidence in this case,” he said.

Bello and four others were arraigned on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 on 18 counts bordering on criminal misappropriation and money laundering to the tune of N3,081,804,654.00 (Three Billion, Eighty-One Million, Eight Hundred and Four Thousand, Six Hundred and Fifty-Four Naira).

The other four defendants are Abba Adauda, Yakubu Siyaka Adabenege, Iyada Sadat and the Kogi First Lady, Rashida Bello (at large).

Count one of the charge reads, “That you, ALI BELLO, ABBA ADAUDU, YAKUBU SIYAKA ADABENEGE, IYADA SADAT, RASHIDA BELLO (at large) sometime in June, 2020 in Abuja within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court procured E- Traders International Limited to retain the aggregate sum of N3,081,804,654.00 (Three Billion, Eighty-One Million, Eight Hundred and Four Thousand, Six Hundred and Fifty-Four Naira) which sum you reasonably ought to have known forms part of proceeds of unlawful activity to wit: criminal misappropriation, and you thereby committed an offence contrary to sections 18(a), 15(20)(d) of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act, 2011 as amended and punishable under section 15 (3) of the same Act.”

Count 3 reads, “That you, ALI BELLO, ABBA ADAUDU, RASHIDA BELLO (at large) sometime in November, 2021 in Abuja within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court procured E-Traders International Limited to transfer the aggregate sum of $570,330 (Five Hundred and Seventy Thousand, Three Hundred and Thirty United States Dollars) to account number no; 426-6644272 domiciled in TD Bank, United States of America, which sum you reasonably ought to have known forms part of proceeds of unlawful activity to with: criminal misappropriation, and you thereby committed an offence contrary to section 15(2)(d) of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act, 2011 as amended and punishable under section 15 (3) of the same Act.”

Count 17 reads, “That you, ALI BELLO, ABBA ADAUDU, RASHIDA BELLO (at large) between 26th July, 2021 and 6th April, 2022 in Abuja within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court procured E-Traders International Limited to remove from the jurisdiction of the Honourable Court to account no. 426-664-4272 domiciled in TD Bank, United States of America, the aggregate sum of $570,330 (Five Hundred and Seventy Thousand, Three Hundred and Thirty United States Dollars) which sum you reasonably ought to have known forms part of the proceeds of unlawful activity to wit; criminal misappropriation, and you thereby committed an offence contrary to section 15(2) (c) of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act, 2011 as amended and punishable under section 15 (3) of the same Act.”

Count 18 reads, “That you, ALI BELLO, ABBA ADAUDU, RASHIDA BELLO(at large) between 26th July 2021 and 6th April, 2022 in Abuja within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court procured E-Traders International Limited to remove from the jurisdiction of the Honourable Court to account no. 426-664-4272 domiciled in TD Bank, United States of America, the aggregate sum of $845,852.84 (Eight Hundred and Forty-five Thousand, Eight Hundred and Fifty-two United States Dollars) which sum you reasonably ought to have known forms part of the proceeds of unlawful activity to wit; criminal misappropriation, and you thereby committed an offence contrary to section 15(2)(c ) of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act, 2011 as amended and punishable under section 15 ( 3 ) of the same Act.”
