‘Out of my Way’ is one of the songs on Jaajo’s recently-released seven-track Extended Play (EP), ‘Afrolypso’.

The choir version of the monster hit debuted on streaming platforms, including YouTube, seven days ago, and it has since been topping charts.

“I was bored and I wanted to treat my fans to new experiences with my sound. So, the choir version idea of ‘Out of my Way’ came up, and I’m loving the outcome already,” Jaajo said as he gushes over his latest release.

‘Afrolypso’, which premiered in May 2022, was produced to entertain Africans and those in Black communities on a global scale.

The songs, which put the Black Culture on a global map, are -‘Lovu Lovu, Oyogo, Rollam, Control, Yolo, and Joro Joro’.

Explaining that the body of work is centered around Africans and their music taste, Jaajo said “listening to this project, you will have a feel of local-oriented beats, and African cultural infusion.”

In the course of a chat on Tea With Tay, Davido said the teacher made the statement because he was quite a bad boy as a kid.

According to him, while his peers at British International School (BIS) would go to ShopRite after school activities, he would rather go to Shogunle, a residential area that shares a boundary with Ikeja Along and Bolade, to have a good time.

“My French teacher in secondary school told me I won’t be anything in life. I’m not going to lie, I was a bad kid, but one with good intentions… I went to BIS, which is one of the most expensive in Lagos. So, after school all the students would go to Shoprite, but I would head to Shogunle. He was my mum’s driver, and my mum passed away, and he then went with his thing -gyming. I went to America, and came back. I saw him when I returned to Nigeria… I didn’t plan to be famous, I was only hoping so, but God did it,” the Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) boss stated.

Speaking about his recent N1 million fundraising challenge, Davido said contrary to what many people may have thought, it was not a campaign, adding that the whole thing was unplanned as a matter of fact.

His words: “This is not a campaign, I was having a hair cut at the balcony, and we were drinking alcohol.. And because I have decided that it wasn’t safe to put out my account number, I initially didn’t want to do it. But I suddenly changed my mind. To the surprise of those around me that day, I just picked up my phone and pasted my account details on the internet, and the money started coming in immediately. When the money hit N200 million, I was so overwhelmed, such that I went to my room and I started crying. In that process, I thanked God for making me something in this life.“

Born as Akanbi Brett Bamidele, Cheque is a reigning Nigerian singer and songwriter. Interestingly, in the short while his music career professionally debuted, his songs have secured massive numbers on streaming platforms.

How Cheque’s career began

For Cheque, music started during his bachelor’s degree programme while he was an undergraduate of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU).

While he graduated in 2017, after which he started chasing music full-time, Cheque earned his first degree from OAU in Chemical Engineering.

Following his graduation from the university, Cheque was easily spotted for his musical talents by PentHauze Music and got signed almost immediately.

Cheque was invited for a performance at an event, and while serenading the audience with his melodious trap music, he continually mentioned ‘Mic Check’, and the crowd continued to cheer him up with that.

After the show, he just loved the way the fans he made at the event called him ‘Check’, but later styled it “Cheque”.

Cheque’s EP and songs

Since he debuted his career under Phyno’s watch, Cheque has released two musical projects –Razor EP and Bravo, with no less than 18 songs combined.

Not only has he featured on a song with his record label boss, but Cheque has also attracted interest from other music stars, that include Davido and his American counterpart Wale.
