The people of Delta has made a public appeal to the state Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, over the unreleased funds that have been due to the contractors of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC).

In a letter addressed to the state government under the leadership of Okowo, the indigenes lamented that the payment was long overdue, maintaining that contractors are now left in quagmire and frustration as they have no option than to face the wrath of their suppliers and creditors.

According to them, the act of holding back the funds of DESOPADEC even as the Federal Government released the 13% due for the development of the oil communities on a monthly basis, is “sacrilegious and worst.”

While alleging that there has been no single payment to the contractors for more than a year, the indigenes stated that the people of the oil bearing communities of Delta State deserve better.
